"No, I'm Spartacus!"
Who attends, speaks, organizes, and sponsors WEBZINE 2000? Well, dear pilgrim, the answer is a resounding you!
Our audience is made up of hundreds of different types of people who are involved with an
entire spectrum of
media. Intellectuals, freaks, and freaky intellectuals make their rounds so be prepared to meet someone who
is guaranteed to open your mind.
THE AUDIENCE
Audience members at Webzine 99 and Webzine 98 included activists, designers, journalists, dj's, web workers,
educators, artists, culture jammers, subversive anarchists, slackers, assholes, academics, and cool kids.
The
vibe is very conducive to meeting zinemakers and other online creators. Speakers and panelists usually hang out,
drink a beer, and are available for face to face conversations before and after they are on stage. And look out,
the emcee Justin Hall might just pull you up on stage and put a mic in front of your face!
THE SPEAKERS AND PANELISTS
People that come up on stage during the event are folks that we invite to speak or are people that have mentioned
to us that they have the desire to share their experiences or are people inspired at the event
to hop up between
panels and show off their site. This year, audience stage time is programmed into the event. If you feel you've
got something to share (and you must, or you wouldn't be reading this!) please answer our call for speakers.
THE ORGANIZERS AND VOLUNTEERS
We are dedicated and inspired web worker types sick of our day jobs punching code and organizing projects for the
dot com establishment. As insiders, we know the mentality of the typical dot-commies and the media hype that surrounds
them. WEBZINE 2000 organizers and volunteers help out with the event because direct action must be taken to get
people to think about the web as a vehicle for personal, creative, and alternative expression.
THE SPONSORS
WEBZINE 2000 has accepted sponsorships from companies such as Adobe, Topica, and Pyra and from web studios such as Rare Medium,
Phoenix Pop, Method Studios, and Verso Studios. We have also accepted in-kind donations such as DSL from Northpoint Systems,
cakes and cookies from Lady Baltimore Cakes, and ad space from the Bay Guardian. WEBZINE 2000 is a not-for-profit event that
barely breaks even each year. This year, we are seeking ten $500 sponsorships from web studios and open broadband companies
who have indirect interest in supporting an event attended by hundreds of independent online creators. The event is not about
selling a product, product showcasing, advertising, or making money. WEBZINE 2000 is an exhibition, forum, and party.
